Everyone is watching the weather. Seems Mammoth ski resort is chilling down and everyone is gearing up for an early winter with a lot of snow. Mammoth ski resort is set to officially open on Thursday, November 12, 2009. This announcement comes just as the National Weather service has put out a forecast for a moderate El Nino to hit this fall, bringing more than normal rain / snow. The first of the areas Mammoth ski resort opens is the main lodge due to its elevation at 8600 ft. Canyon Lodge and Eagle lodge are set to open for Thanksgiving weekend, however as they are lower, they will only open if there is good snow coverage. Interestingly, the base of Mammoth Mountain main lodge is at a higher elevation than the top of Heavenly Valley in South Lake Tahoe! Come on up. We'll be here for you.
