Snow Dump Brings Early Open for Mammoth Mountain

Snow fell on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 to the tune of 2-6 feet pushing the opening date of Mammoth Mountain up to Friday October 16, 2009. More than 2 feet fell at main lodge, with 4-6 feet pounding Climax, Corniche, Dave's, and Scotty's. Friday will be ski for free with Broadway chair lift running. This is not the earliest Mammoth has opened, but close. October 8, 1994 was the earliest ever opening. Town was also hit hard with snow, and most did not have their snow tires on. So as a reminder, always carry your chains with you! It seems that Mammoth weather is always unpredictable anytime of the year. The original opening day and parties are still scheduled so plan on coming up no later than November 12 for some really good early season skiing and riding. Bands, fun in the village, food specials and we have lodging discounted in our book online. Check out our snow cams
