MAMMOTH ICE SKATING
|
The
Mammoth Lakes Ice Rink was a beautiful outdoor facility in an Alpine
setting. The rink is back each winter in its new location by the Mammoth
Lakes Library. Each year new features are coming. Soon it will have
a roof! The rink is open most winter days, wind and weather permitting.
The ice rink has different sessions and you should call the Welcome Center to find out when they are as it changes depending on the time of the year. 760-924-5500
If the weather outside is windy and frightening or the ski area is closed because of severe weather, you can almost guarantee that the ice rink will be closed as well. The leaves from the trees blow onto the ice so it needs to close down in order to keep the ice clean and safe. Yes, Mammoth has a Zamboni to clean the ice and does so many times during the day, as Mr. Zamboni really lives in Mammoth!
You can also skate on the many frozen lakes in and around Mammoth
and June. During the coldest months, some of the lakes freeze hard
enough for winter fun. However, we caution you to check with the
Forest Service to find out if any of the lakes are suitable. They
have final say on which are safe enough for activities if at all.
They can be reached at 760-924-5500.
